Service Contract

Service Contracts are usually an excellent form of protection for your home. Many good stories exist regarding service contracts. Some homeowners have had extremely good response from their coverage. One homeowner had a hot water heater go down and the company brought and installed a new one the next day. The companies typically help with major appliances, the electrical system of the house, the exterior and more.

Do your homework BEFORE buying a service contract. Understand the "Terms and Conditions" of the contract, especially its limitations.
The key points to consider are:
  • The reputation of the agency
  • Are you required to use a certain servicing organization
  • Does the agreement contain a service repair cost "deductible" clause
  • Are you required to get second opinions or price estimates before repair
  • What is the contract renewal rate
  • What repairs are not covered
Ask plenty of questions before purchasing and you will prevent unwelcome discrepancies at a time when you would least like any additional problems.

Many homeowners have had good experiences with a Service Contract. If you think about it, there is never a good time for a washing machine to stop working. There aren't many people who keep a nest egg for household emergencies. Aside from the unexpected expense of something breaking down, you also have the hassle factor. Who wants to take time out from our busy schedules to wait for hours on end for a repair person who may or may not show. Or perhaps you are going to try to do it yourself. Two or three trips to the hardware store and hot tempers - who needs it? With a Service Contract you make a single call and they do the rest.
